Dressed for Truth and Authenticity

1 0

Maybe it’s not the craving for these things, maybe it’s much deeper. Could it be that it is a craving or a deep THIRST for TRUTH. Craving to be Dressed for Truth and Authenticity.

What are we Craving for?

As we fight to be our authentic selves, we are all pressured to mimic the rich and the famous. The bold and the beautiful. Craving the notoriety of those who have written bestseller books. Won Grammy awards for movies and songs. Those who have gone viral on Instagram, Facebook or some other social media outlet.

Could it be that we emulate these people because WE are afraid of being unique and running OUR own race?

The Authentic Self

  • A picture of Authenticity

As I continue to adjust to being a recent empty nester. I find that I have a lot more time to contemplate what the next season of my life will look like. Keeping that in mind, when my daughter called the other day to share that she had given her first presentation to a new group  of students. We all sat in anticipation, to hear how it all went. She had just arrived at a new assignment.

So we could share in her excitement she shared a video and picture from the event.  As I listened and examined the picture. I saw something that would go unnoticed at first glance.

Now one must note that she’s a missionary on a college campus.

As I listened, she was calm and soothing. I noticed that although, she was among northerners, there was no attempt to conceal her Texas southern voice. And she shared her keen sense of humor without hesitation.

Most notable was that, the outfit was her own signature style. I was in awe at her unwavering confidence as she stood before them.

  • No Shame Or Apologies

She presented her authentic self with no shame or apologies.

I wonder if she got it from me?  As a teenager and young adult, my biggest concern was that the world around me would see me for who I really was.

The real me…the AUTHENTIC me.

I chose not to wear makeup or fancy clothes, not that I am against that, but to go against the “norm” was my statement to the world. However, I am sure I hurt my mothers feelings. She was a model when she was younger. She always had a sense for fashion and color. So it is reasonable that her daughters would have it as well. I had nothing against her choice.

I only wanted to be ME.

  • A Non-Conformist

How I felt was what I wore. I was not a conformist. I refused to follow the trends. My badge would not be what wore, I am more than that.

To be noticed for my character and how treated those around me was my deepest desire. My love for intimate family gatherings. Good family movies and romance novels. Life and laughter. Like my daughter, I wanted to be unique, like no other. My true self. I wanted to live out MY TRUTH.

What is TRUTH?

The Cambridge English dictionary defines “truth” as the actual fact or facts about a matter. Truth is a healthy character trait that can only lead to real wholeness and true happiness.

  • Truth is LIGHT

Light to the World. God is light, who dispels the darkness of this world. Jesus came as the light of the world, breaking through the darkness of sin by his work on the cross. It follows that believers are a light to the world as well. Jesus describes his disciples as light and light-bearers. https://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionary/light/

  • Truth is a Banner that can not be denied and will not be ignored.

My husband often has been known to say in our home and to everyone he meets, “Keep your heart real.” Keeping your heart real is to raise the banner of surrender. To be truthful with yourself and the Lord. Admitting that we need him.

It’s about as REAL is we will ever, truly know. And can only be obtained by walking close to the Living God Jesus Christ.

14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. Ephesians 6:14

  • Truth, where can we find it?

Maybe it is a deep crave to be seen, heard and known.  A crave to know you matter. A deep crave beyond your physical self. A crave for something or someone that can fill a emptiness. A dehydrated soul. That can only be satisfied, not with the metaphorical, junk food, that this life offers. But true satisfying water.

13 Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. John 4:13 NLT

In order for the woman in this passage to understand what Jesus was offering she had to ADMIT to the truth.

15 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.”

16 “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her.

17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.

Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now.

You certainly spoke the truth!John 4:15-18

  • The Truth was not the well, only a symbol of Jesus himself.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6

The Reward of Truth

The Lord has offered ALL of us the opportunity to have LIFE and LIFE more abundantly.

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 NLT

  • Walking with Jesus

What does it mean to walk with the Lord?

The Greek word (peripatew) means to walk or to walk around.

Rom. 6:4, “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk (peripatew) in newness of life.”

The song “A Closer Walk with Thee” says it best:

I am weak but Thou art strong. Jesus keep me from all wrong. I’ll be satisfied as long. As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee

Grant it, Jesus, is my plea

Daily walking close to Thee

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

When my feeble life is o’er. Time for me will be no more Guide me gently, safely o’er. To Thy kingdom’s shore, to Thy shore

Just a closer walk with Thee

Grant it, Jesus, is my plea

Daily walking close to Thee

Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

The conclusion of the matter is this, THE path to TRUTH is by surrendering and submitting our lives to the only true and living God Jesus Christ.

32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
